Airtable offers pricing plans from free to $54 per user per month, with custom enterprise pricing available for larger organizations.

Read on to learn:

  • The features and limitations of each Airtable pricing plan
  • Who should use each plan
  • How does Airtable compare to other database builders?

‍

What Is Airtable?

Airtable is a no-code backend and database builder. A backend and database make up two of the three main parts of any app, website, or software, with the third being the front end or user interface (UI).

While Airtable’s no-code interface allows even the most tech-allergic folks to create a backend and database without technical knowledge, it doesn’t provide a frontend or UI-building interface.

Conveniently, Airtable integrates with several front-end builders or app-building platforms, like Adalo, Glide, Softr, and many more. You can connect your Airtable backend to most app builders with just a few clicks.

Also, Airtable is compatible with iOS and Android so you can publish your final app on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for free.

Airtable Pricing Plans

Airtable Free Plan

Freelancers and small teams can taste how Airtable's user interface feels by using its free version. Airtable gives you 1 workspace, just a collection of bases (Airtable-speak for databases) with up to 5 editors. However, you’ll have an unlimited number of bases.

Each base can hold up to 1,000 records and 2GB of attachment space, enough to support a simple startup backend.

The free plan also allows real-time collaboration so your team can build a backend together, streamlining your database creation and keeping everyone on the same page. Here are some other generous features offered by Airtable’s free plan:

  • A snapshot history for up to 2 weeks for quick mistake correction or revisiting earlier data entries.
  • Integrations with apps like Google Calendar and Slack
  • Up to 100 workflow automations monthly for optimal productivity
  • Data visualization features like Kanban cards, a calendar, a dashboard, and more

‍

Airtable Team Plan: $24/month per Seat (Billed Monthly)

With all the features of the free version, Airtable’s Team Plan stays true to its name by providing an unlimited number of users (seats) per workspace — just be mindful that you’ll be billed $24/month for each user.

The Team Plan allows for 50,000 records per base, 20GB of attachments per base, and 25,000 automation runs. Here are some other eyebrow-raising features that come with the Team Plan:

  • For an extra $6/month per user, you can integrate Airtable’s AI features to generate formulas for your backend, juice up automations, and much more.
    ‍
  • 1-year revision snapshot history, allowing to go back in time and check up on or change original iterations.
    ‍
  • An advanced set of project management tools like Gantt Charts, dynamic filtering, and timelines.
    ‍
  • Access to premade extensions like charts, pivot tables, and other tools for your bases.

Attention all non-profits: Airtable’s got your back with a non-profit pricing discount of 50%. This significant discount can keep your costs down while giving you access to Airtable’s powerful building interface.

Airtable Business Plan: $54/Month per Seat (Billed Monthly)

Tried and true to its name, the Business Plan offers unlimited workspaces and editors, 125,000 records per base, and 100GB of attachment space. This plan is for medium-size organizations and above looking to scale dozens upon dozens of backends.

You’ll also get all the features from the Team Plan and more, including:

  • A 2-year revision and snapshot history, allowing you to go way back.
  • There are many syncing capabilities, like the ability to streamline several databases into one, grant access permissions, and many more features to give you tons of control over your backend.
  • Advanced security functionalities like controlled vendor visibility and domain management so your data is well defended.

Airtable Enterprise Scale Plan: Contact Airtable

As its name suggests, the Enterprise Scale Plan is for the big kids — mammoth organizations, multi-national corporations, and Fortune 500s. You’ll get up to 500,000 records per base, 500,000 automation runs, and 1TB (1,000GB) of attachment storage per base.

With everything from the Business Plan and then some, the Enterprise Scale Plan also offers these features:

  • A run history of at least 3 years, a feature that is to backend building what the Wayback Machine is to internet research.
  • Permission to sync data from an external source, like a Jira Server or the Adobe Experience Manager, is ideal for companies working with several data locations.
  • The capability to file your backends into app libraries that you can manage based on your defined data structure.
  • Meticulous authority over all your admin controls by providing an admin panel to view all your projects and users, reports about workspaces and users, and much more.

Is Airtable Right for You?

Now that we’ve run through each of Airtable’s 4 pricing tiers, let's determine if it’s right for you. We’ve provided the following points to guide your decision about forking out cash to Airtable:

  • Backend builder only: It’s crucial to remember that Airtable can’t build screens for an app or pages for a website — it’s a backend builder only. This can be ideal for folks who just want to use a powerful tool that gives them granular control over storing and visualizing their data.

If you want to build an interactive app with screens and functions, you’ll need to use an app-building platform, which will likely be another cost. However, Airtable integrates with most app-building platforms, so finding one to build your frontend shouldn’t be an issue.
  • No tech skills required: If you don’t have any tech skills and want to create a database or backend, Airtable is an excellent choice. While a tiny bit of experience working with spreadsheet programs like Excel or Google Sheets will help, you won’t need to know anything about coding, SQL, or other tech concepts.

Airtable's ease of use and its power as a database builder distinguish it from other database builders. Many competing database builders require some technical knowledge or have a learning curve.
  • Costs can add up: Keep in mind that these monthly pricing tiers are all per seat. If you have a team of only 4, your monthly fees for the Team Plan will be nearly $100 (billed monthly) — and it can be even more expensive if you add the AI features.
